Why buy Asian Vehicles?

Why buy Asian Vehicles?

The number one reason is reliability. Not all Asian makes and models should be at the top of your next-purchase-possibilities list, but in general, Toyotas, Subarus, Honda and the like tend to be pretty darn solid. Before you purchase any new-to-you vehicle, make sure you do your homework.  Asian vehicles may not be as powerful or hold as well in the turns, but that’s not why you buy them. You buy them because they (typically) last a lot longer, are less likely to break down, and the maintenance and repair costs tend to run a lot cheaper than their European counterparts. It’s not surprising to find an Asian vehicle that easily made it past the 200,000 mile marker and not terribly unusual to find one well past the 300,000. When you take the time to properly care for your Asian vehicle, provide regular maintenance and oil changes, you can hope for a very long life from your car.  Research the heck out of the specific models you’re most interested in own ... read more

Community Involvement

Community Involvement

Keith Williamson opened Williamson’s Repair & Tire 22 years ago because not only does he love working on cars, he loves helping people. Nothing motivates him or his team more than when they all have a chance to help someone in our local communities of Bondurant and Altoona. They are grateful for being a part of this wonderful community and want to give back any way they can and whenever possible.  They are known in the area for regularly helping out folks in need: A farm family who had a child diagnosed with terminal cancer needed help during harvest time and Williamson’s chipped in to help. It wasn’t hard to gather people around here to help out because we live in such a caring community, but it still took initiative and someone willing to take the reins. Another family with a father also diagnosed with terminal cancer who was the family’s breadwinner could not fix their vehicle. A local family donated their older vehicle and Williamson’s repa ... read more

The Best in Compact Vehicles

The Best in Compact Vehicles

Compact Vehicles are perfect for getting around a busy city, squeezing into small parking spots and have surprisingly a good amount of storage. Right now on the road, the three compact kings of the road are the Mini Cooper, Toyota Prius, and the classic Volkswagen Beetle. If you’re not convinced yet then read below! Mini Coopers are at the top of compact cars. They are known for their amazing handling, potent engine, and have a large amount of room in the cabin space. The 2019 Mini Coopers is fairly inexpensive compared to other 2019 cars and start around $22,000. If you have a need for speed you can get the engine from a 3-cylinder to a 4-cylinder turbo. You can also get it in a convertible top and you have the option of 2 or 4 doors. Not only is a Mini Cooper a great compact car, but it also has a sporty vibe to it and is easily customizable.  Toyota is known for its line of Hybrid vehicles that are taking over the automotive industry. Their claim to fame was when they r ... read more

Who Doesn’t Love Trucks, SUVs, & Jeeps?

Who Doesn’t Love Trucks, SUVs, & Jeeps?

Whether it’s the dead of winter or middle of the summer, a truck, SUV or Jeep is always a good purchase! Trucks and SUVs have saved U.S automakers for many years and will continue to do so as sedan and sports car sales decline. These vehicles are fun to drive and take us places that traditional sedans simply cannot. The market share for GM, Ford, and Chrysler when it comes to trucks and SUVs has proven to be consistently high while the foreign companies dominate the small car and sedan markets. Companies expect sales for all three car types to continue rising as we move into 2020.  Trucks are deeply rooted in the farmers’ lifestyle after being replaced by wheelbarrows around 1925. This drastically changed the process of transporting food and has now become a major status symbol for Americans. They are America’s workhorse, always there for you during a move or home repair project. A truck is versatile, both on and off the road and in both situations you ... read more

What’s The Big Deal With Servicing European Vehicles?

In the auto repair world, there are auto mechanics that embrace working on European vehicles and other auto service shops that would prefer staying away from European vehicles. So, what’s the big deal with European vehicles? To give a simple answer, it’s because European vehicles require special tools, special software, and special skills that are specific to certain brands. For example, if a shop advertises that it works on Jaguars and Land Rovers, it’s because they have invested in the specialized equipment to perform quality service and repairs on these two brands. Independent shops that work on BMWs require BMW tools, software, and equipment. Same goes for Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche, and the like. To contrast with European vehicles, American-made and Asian vehicles tend to be more generalized when it comes to repairs. Any American brand tends to require the same parts, software, equipment, and skill sets, regardless of the make and model. The same could ... read more

The 300,000 mile Vehicle

You may hear stories of vehicles being worn out after 100,000 miles. While this was a very good possibility 30 or 40 years ago, todays cars last much longer. With the advent of fuel injection, and better oil standards, engines have seen increased fuel economy, better performance, and increased longevity. Today’s automobiles are capable of 300,000 plus miles if maintained properly. I have seen three vehicles in recent years attain over 450,000 miles! I have personally Owned multiple vehicles with over 300,000 miles.     Your automobile is likely one of your largest investments second only to your home.  Protect that investment with routine maintenance. I recommend a complete vehicle inspection at least twice a year by an ASE certified technician. This will locate any potential safety concerns as well as inform you of needed maintenance. This will allow you to budget for needed repairs. Quick lube centers are great at changi ... read more

AUTOMOTIVE FLUID SERVICES

I get questions such as; why do I need to exchange or “flush” fluids on my car. I will discuss why you should change fluids, and what can happen if you don’t. This list will cover the most common fluids today.     AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID- is a form of hydraulic fluid used to propel and lubricate. It has many detergents and additives to make sure the moving parts inside your vehicles Transmission stay clean and cool. This fluid turns a brownish color as it ages due to the heat developed in the transmission. Left unchanged this fluid will lose its lubrication and cleaning properties. This could lead to Sticking shift valves or solenoids and premature bearing and clutch wear. This fluid is usually vehicle specific today and should be changed every 30,00 to 50,000 miles ... read more
